Customizing Your Agents

Every agent in the SlyReply catalog can be customized to better fit your needs. Create a personal copy, tweak the settings, and the agent behaves exactly the way you want.

What You Can Customize

Agent Instructions (sometimes called the "system prompt" in other AI tools) The instructions define the agent's personality, expertise, and how it should respond. You can edit them to:

  • Add your company-specific knowledge or policies
  • Change the response format (bullet points vs. paragraphs, formal vs. casual)
  • Include standing instructions ("Always respond in British English")
  • Narrow the focus ("Only review Python code, ignore other languages")

Creativity (sometimes called "temperature" in other AI tools) Controls how predictable or varied the agent's replies are. 0.7 works for most business replies; lower for policy-driven answers, higher for creative ones.

  • 0.0 - 0.3 — Predictable and consistent. Best for code review, legal analysis, and factual Q&A.
  • 0.4 - 0.7 — Balanced. Good for customer support, tutoring, and general assistance.
  • 0.8 - 1.0 — More creative and varied. Best for brainstorming, creative writing, and idea generation.

Tone Choose a preset tone that matches your needs:

  • Professional — formal, business-appropriate language
  • Friendly — warm and approachable, like a helpful colleague
  • Casual — relaxed and conversational
  • Academic — precise, well-cited, scholarly

What it does Most agents do Text replies — emails, drafts, answers. Image generation agents (Pro+) take an email prompt and reply with a generated image attached. This setting is locked once the agent is created and can't be flipped later — pick the right one upfront. (The create-agent form warns you about this before you save.)

Model Each capability has a list of available models. Free accounts can pick from the cheapest in each provider's lineup; premium models are marked with the plan they need — image models and Stability Ultra need (Pro), while the most capable text models (GPT-5, GPT-5 Pro) need (Power) — and stay disabled until you upgrade.

How to customize an agent

  1. Open the Playground and click the agent you want to customize from the picker rail.
  2. Click Customize in the top bar.
  3. SlyReply creates a personal copy linked to your account on first save.
  4. Edit the system prompt, temperature, tone, model, or other settings in the modal.
  5. Save — your customizations apply to the agent's email address (no new alias).

Example: Customizing a Support Agent

Starting with Sunny the Support Star, you might customize the system prompt:

You are Sunny, a support agent for Acme Software.

Key product details:
- Acme Pro costs $29/month or $290/year
- Free trial is 14 days, no credit card required
- Refund policy: full refund within 30 days

Always include a link to docs.acme.com when referencing
product features. Sign off with "The Acme Support Team."

Tips

  • Start from a similar agent — it is easier to modify an existing agent than to build from scratch
  • Test with a few emails before committing to a custom agent for regular use
  • Keep system prompts focused — shorter, clearer instructions produce better results than long, complex ones
